Sister Rosalind Prayers

Prayer by Sister Rosalind May 14, 2002

God Our Father,

We are so grateful for this gift of life.

Had we not been born we could never praise or know you.

Now Father, we ask that you might lead us to that Blessed home,

for which we eagerly long and then be with You, your Son,

and the Holy Spirit, forever and forever.

Amen.

Sister Rosalind's Prayer on July 12, 2001

God Our Heavenly Father,

I ask you to guide me in all my undertakings.

Use me for the healing of each person I come in contact with.

Let them see no longer me but your caring and gentle love.

Open my heart and my ears that I may hear the need of each person.

Let me love each person with your overflowing heart of love.

Give me humility to be a servant to all.

You told us "whatever you did to the least of these, my brother and sister, you did to me".

We ask this in the precious and holy name of Jesus.

Amen.

Sister Rosalind Gefre was born in 1929 to German immigrants who had a farm near Strasburg, North Dakota, the hometown of the famous television personality Lawrence Welk. Growing up, Sister Rosalind spoke German in her home and suffered the tragic loss of her father at an early age.

Perhaps a foreshadowing of her life to come as a nun dedicated to healing was the selection by her parents of her birth name of Margaret. For her confirmation name, Sister Rosalind took Margaret Mary after a Saint she dearly loved --Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, who was born in France in 1647. As a child, Saint Margaret was confined to bed with paralysis for four years. After making a vow to the Blessed Virgin that she would consecrate herself to religious life, Saint Margaret was instantly healed.
"My patron Saint, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, I admired very, very much. I read her life over and over and over because I could identify with her. She was uneducated, nobody great in the eyes of the world, but Jesus loved her and chose her out of all the convent. My whole background did not get me ready to start schools and clinics, but the need was there and I jumped in and did it."
